How Diatomite Work?

Diatomaceous earth, often called “sea grass,” is a natural mineral. It’s made from the fossilized remains of tiny aquatic organisms. Because of this process, the mineral has unique properties that make it ideal for many different uses.

It has natural antimicrobial properties, which is pretty impressive. It works physically, without any chemicals or toxins. In its raw state, it attracts and traps bacteria and parasites, drying them out and eliminating them effectively.

We don’t add any dyes or extra substances to our diatomaceous earth, so it keeps its natural color. However, because it’s light-colored, it can stain when it comes into contact with dirt or darker liquids.

If something spills, follow these steps:

• Blot up the excess liquid before it’s absorbed.

• For light stains, slightly wet the product and gently use sandpaper.

• For tougher stains, apply small amounts of diluted bleach or hydrogen peroxide.

This helps keep both the look and performance of your diatomaceous earth.

• Handle diatomite carefully, as it can break if dropped or hit.

• Let the product dry naturally and avoid direct sunlight or heat sources.

• Don’t use soap or detergent, as they can reduce absorbency and cause stains.

• Avoid contact with colored or greasy substances, as they may stain it.

If you notice reduced absorption, lightly sand the surface with the sandpaper provided and wipe away the dust with a damp cloth.

Turn the product upside down for a while so it can return to its original flat shape.

To remove deep stains from your Moonstone™ diatomite stones, slightly wet the surface and gently rub it with the included sandpaper to remove the marks.
